Obuasi assembly introduces biometric clock in to check staff lateness

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has introduced a biometric clock in system so as to check lateness and absenteeism.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Elijah Adansi Bonah told Graphic Online that the move formed part of strategies to ensure punctuality and positive attitude towards work and help improve productivity.

He called for co-operation from staff of the assembly and asked for a sense of purpose to develop the Obuasi area.

Explaining why 22 out of a total of 70 casual staff of the assembly have been laid off, Mr Bonah said it was part of strategies to reduce the expenditure burden on its Internally Generated Funds (IGF), through which the casual staff are paid.

He said after a recent head count of casual workers, the Finance and Administration Committee of the assembly recommended that 22 should be laid off and efforts made to raise more funds since they were only able to meet 40 per cent of the IGF’s target.
As a result, they needed to reduce the burden on the IGF.

Mr Adansi Bonah who assumed office two months ago noted that many landlords were indebted to the assembly in terms of property rate and urged tax collectors to intensify collection strategies.

In a related development, the immediate past MCE, Mr Richard Ofori Agyeman popularly known as "King Zuba" has lauded his successor, for the introduction of the biometric clock.
